Stage 3: Post-engagement

Thank the Indigenous modern treaty holder for their knowledge sharing and time.

If the engagement was a meeting, send the meeting notes. Send them before the next meeting if there is another gathering so the Indigenous modern treaty holder can review the notes and provide comments.

For any type of engagement, be clear about the next steps and how the information will be communicated to the Indigenous modern treaty holder going forward.

It is important to see the engagement as a step in further building your relationship with the Indigenous modern treaty holder, as this is an ongoing relationship. As outlined in the Statement of Principles on the Federal Approach to Modern Treaty Implementation, “Modern Treaty implementation is an ongoing process.”
