As was mentioned earlier, no two modern treaties are exactly the same. Here’s an overview of the Nisg̱a’a modern treaty land management system in northern British Columbia.

The Nisg̱a’a Final Agreement includes full ownership by the Nisg̱a’a Nation of 1,992 km² of land (Nisg̱a’a Land). All activity on Nisg̱a’a Land must be in accordance with laws and regulations of the Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government. The Nisg̱a’a Land Act establishes:

• The office of the Director of Lands and Resources
• The Nisg̱a’a Lisims Land Registry for the purpose of maintaining an inventory of Nisg̱a’a land
• That no person may acquire an interest in Nisg̱a’a land except under the Nisg̱a’a Land Act or another Nisg̱a’a Lisims enactment
• That the Executive of Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government may allow for a disposition of Nisg̱a’a a land (e.g., licence of occupation for quarrying, or Nisg̱a’a Village Entitlement) if requirements are met
• The applicant for a land grant or disposition must publish a notice regarding his or her application
