Introduction

Key provisions of every modern treaty are those related to land. For Indigenous people across Canada the land is closely tied to their cultures and identities, and is the source of food, water, clothing, and shelter, as well as resources such as wood and minerals that can allow them to participate in the global economy.

In this part of the course we’ll explore various types of land ownership related to Indigenous peoples, as well as specific rights that modern treaty holders have on their traditional lands.
