Modern treaty holders in the Yukon have two categories of settlement land with different surface and subsurface rights:
Category A Settlement Land is land where a Yukon First Nation has ownership of the surface and subsurface, including minerals. All staking, exploration and mining activity is governed by the First Nation for new mineral interests on this land
Category B Settlement Land is land where a Yukon First Nation has ownership of the surface only. New and existing staking, exploration and mining activity are governed by the Yukon Government on this land
