Each modern treaty organization makes economic development decisions based on the priorities of their people and what assets they possess. In the case of Tsawwassen First Nation, their proximity to Vancouver is a major asset.
Among other ventures, the Tsawwassen First Nation Economic Development Corporation has partnered with tech giant Amazon to build a 450,000 ft2 distribution centre on Tsawwassen land. The facility employs hundreds of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and generates significant economic activity in the region. Tsawwassen First Nation Economic Development Corporation also built the 1.2 million ft2 Tsawwassen Mills Mall, one of the largest enclosed shopping centres in Western Canada.
